Apple introduces 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 chips, faster SSD and Wi-Fi 7 support
Apple has introduced the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro powered by the all-new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, bringing a massive leap in professional performance and next-generation AI capabilities.

With the new silicon, Apple is promising up to 4x faster AI performance compared to the previous generation and up to 8x faster AI performance versus M1-based MacBook Pro models. The company says this unlocks advanced AI workflows directly on device, allowing developers, researchers, and creative professionals to run large language models, process massive datasets, and build AI-powered tools locally without relying on the cloud.

M5 Pro and M5 Max: Built for serious workloads

Both chips are built on Apple’s new Fusion Architecture, combining two dies into a single system on a chip. The M5 Pro and M5 Max feature up to an 18-core CPU, including six super cores and 12 performance cores, alongside a next-generation GPU that integrates a Neural Accelerator into each core.

Apple claims up to 30 percent faster overall CPU performance and up to 50 percent better graphics performance compared to the previous generation. AI tasks such as LLM prompt processing and AI image generation see dramatic improvements, while professionals working in 3D rendering, simulations, video effects, and game development benefit from major GPU gains.

The M5 Pro supports up to 64GB of unified memory with 307GB/s memory bandwidth, while M5 Max scales up to 128GB unified memory with 614GB/s bandwidth, targeting users pushing the most demanding workloads.

Faster storage and higher starting capacity

The new MacBook Pro now delivers up to 2x faster SSD speeds, reaching up to 14.5GB/s. Storage also gets a boost. M5 Pro models now start with 1TB as standard, while M5 Max models start with 2TB, giving professionals more room for 4K and 8K video, AI models, and large creative projects.

Connectivity, battery life, and display

Apple is also introducing its new N1 wireless chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for faster and more reliable connectivity. The laptop supports Thunderbolt 5, HDMI with up to 8K output, an SDXC card slot, and MagSafe 3 fast charging.

Battery life goes up to 24 hours, and Apple says performance remains consistent whether plugged in or running on battery. The Liquid Retina XDR display returns with up to 1600 nits peak HDR brightness and an optional nano-texture finish.

Other upgrades include a 12MP Center Stage camera, studio-quality microphones, and a six-speaker system with Spatial Audio support.

Powered by macOS Tahoe

The new MacBook Pro runs on macOS Tahoe, bringing deeper Apple Intelligence integration, improved Spotlight search, enhanced Shortcuts, Live Translation across apps, and expanded Continuity features between Mac and iPhone.

Pricing and availability in India

The new MacBook Pro models are available for pre-order starting March 4, with availability from March 11 in India and other markets.

In India, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at INR 249900, while the 16-inch version starts at INR 299900. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max starts at INR 399900, and the 16-inch version starts at INR 429900. Education pricing is also available.

The models come in space black and silver.

With major AI gains, faster storage, higher base configurations, and improved wireless connectivity, Apple is positioning the new MacBook Pro lineup as its most powerful and future-ready professional laptop yet.
