This Eid is going to be a cinematic treat for moviegoers as Yash and Ranveer Singh are all set to fight it out at the box office. Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups will release on the same day as Dhurandhar: The Revenge, making it a historic clash at the box office.
While audiences wait to see which film dominates at the box office, the face-off could finally break Bollywood’s disappointing Eid streak.
Bollywood’s past 5 Eid release box office reportIn the past 5 years, Eid releases have not performed well at the box office. Salman Khan’sRadhe, released in 2021, was severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and made ₹18.33 crore worldwide. The film was considered a flop by both critics and the audience, with many questioning the acting and script.
Then we have Runway 34 and Heropanti 2 releasing in 2022. As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34 had a disappointing box office run, finishing with a worldwide gross of approximately ₹50–75 crore.
Meanwhile, Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria’s Heropanti 2 also failed to impress fans and collected a mere ₹35.13 crore worldwide, making it a commercial flop.
In 2023, expectations were high from Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. But, fans were again disappointed when the film got average reviews and underperformed at the box office. The film collected ₹182.44 crore globally, which was disappointing for a Salman Khan Eid release.
The next year, fans set their hope on Akshay Kumar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, but were again left unhappy. Also starring Manushi Chhillar, Alaya F, Sonakshi Sinha and Ronit Roy, the movie was reportedly made on a budget of ₹350 crore but managed to amass ₹110–111.5 crore at the box office.
Maidaan starring Ajay Devgn was also a 2024 Eid release, and despite positive reviews, the film could only collect ₹68-71 crore at the worldwide box office.
In 2025, Salman Khan’s Sikandar was expected to turn things around at the box office, but the film fell short, earning an estimated ₹176.18 crore globally against its ₹200 crore budget.
Will Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic end the cycle? This year is expected to be different with two mega releases Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic clashing on March 19. With the Eid weekend, the massive hype and the pan-Indian appeal of the film, both are expected to perform well at the box office.
As per Tamil producer Dhananjayan, Toxic has already collected ₹600 crore in pre-business sales. On the other hand, Dhurandhar 2 has surpassed the advance booking of Toxic already. As per Sacnilk, Dhurandhar 2 has already amassed an impressive $33,723 in advance sales on March 2.
