Salmon is a healthy yet delicious meal that can be prepared on a weeknight, but perfectly cooked salmon can transform this dish into restaurant-quality. It doesn't need to be cooked for very long, but the right ingredients can make a massive difference to the taste and texture.
Joanne, a cook and co-founder of Inspired Taste, says that baking salmon in brown sugar will improve both the taste and the consistency. She said: "This brown sugar-baked salmon is such a delicious and easy dinner. Our easy brown sugar rub is perfect for salmon fillets."
She added: It caramelises and turns into a sweet and smoky glaze in the oven."
Brown sugar seals in moisture, maintaining the salmon's tenderness and succulence as it cooks, preventing it from drying out during preparation.
The molasses in brown sugar will create a gorgeously caramelised exterior on the salmon as it cooks, enriching its flavour and balancing the fish's savoury notes.

You will need:
- Four salmon fillets
- One tablespoon of brown sugar
- One teaspoon of olive oil
- One teaspoon of lemon zest
- Half a teaspoon of smoked paprika
- Half a lemon (quartered)
- Pinch of salt
- Olive oil
Recipe:
To begin, preheat the oven to 200°C and line a large-rimmed baking sheet with baking paper. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels and then rub them with olive oil.
Mix the brown sugar, lemon zest, paprika, and a pinch of salt in a small bowl.
Drizzle the brown sugar glaze all over the fish and use your hands to massage it into the salmon. If you have time, let the salmon marinate for 10 to 15 minutes.
Once you are ready to cook, place the salmon fillets, skin-side down, on the baking sheet.
Bake the salmon for 12 to 15 minutes, or until fully cooked through. Remove from the oven, and your salmon is ready to be enjoyed.
If you like, serve with lemon wedges for squeezing over the salmon.
