Sky Sports commentator Mark Webster is desperate to return to the broadcaster's darts coverage after stepping away to deal with a medical condition. The former British Darts Organisation (BDO) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) star is 'eager' to return to work and expects to be reassessed in a month.

After a successful sporting career, the 42-year-old Welshman made the move from the oche into broadcasting six years ago and has since worked for Sky Sports and ITV Sport. Webster has provided commentary and analysis from the studio.

Webster is a regular feature of coverage of Premier League darts, and last week, it was confirmed he would be stepping away.Now, the pundit has spoken to Sky Sports and given some details on his hiatus, whilst retaining his privacy.

"Yeah, something cropped up, I'm having a bit of treatment, slowly it seems to be working," he said. "Hopefully another month it will be reassessed and I'll be hoping to get back. I've missed far too much already. At least I get to chat to you guys, I have to be involved."

Told that he had the backing and support of everyone in the darts world, Webster acknowledged that a lot of people had reached out.

"I appreciate it," he added. "I've had some nice messages over social media, it's been really nice. As much as I like watching the darts, it's not the same as being involved so I'm eager to get back."

The interview comes more than a week after the commentator's agency, MODUS Sports Management, announced Webster's status.

A statement read: "On behalf of Mark Webster, MODUS Sports Management can confirm that Mark will be taking a short break from his broadcasting duties, due to a personal medical condition. We please ask that you respect Mark's privacy at this time."

It is little surprise that Webster is keen to make his return, having already used commentary as a way to keep close to the sport. Webster spent some time battling dartitis during his career and did not participate in Q School in 2020 to regain the tour card he lost.

Former BDO world champion Webster had already started his move into commentary, and that took time away from his practice. At that time, he still planned to return to competition, but he now has a love of being on the microphone.

Speaking back in 2022, Webster said: "I really enjoy commentating as it keeps me involved in the sport and I see some great talent coming through.

"At first I was a little bitter that I couldn't play, but now I love it, being able to be with friends and watch the sport."
