IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings Rope in James Foster as Fielding Coach
Cricket Gully | March 5, 2026 6:39 AM CST

James Foster is gearing up to join the Chennai Super Kings coaching team for IPL 2026, working alongside head coach Stephen Fleming. The former England wicketkeeper-batter has been brought on board as CSK's fielding coach, as the franchise looks to bounce back after a tough season that saw them finish at the bottom of the table.

At 45, Foster has a solid background, having played for England in seven Tests, 11 ODIs, and five T20Is from 2001 to 2009. He’s expected to step into his new role later this month. Before this, he was the fielding coach for Kolkata Knight Riders and has also lent his expertise to teams like Desert Vipers, Northern Superchargers, and Peshawar Zalmi.

Alongside head coach Stephen Fleming, the current CSK support staff features Mike Hussey as the batting coach, Eric Simons handling the bowling, Sridharan Sriram as the assistant bowling coach, and Rajiv Kumar, who also takes on fielding duties. Russell Radhakrishnan is managing the team.

CSK Begin IPL Preparations with Revamped Squad

CSK has kicked off a pre-season camp for their Indian players, with many of the domestic squad, including MS Dhoni and Ayush Mhatre, already in attendance.

The team has been training at the franchise’s high-performance center to gear up for the upcoming season. Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, who are currently with the Indian team, are expected to join the camp later, along with Shreyas Gopal after he wraps up his Ranji Trophy commitments.

After a disappointing last season where they finished last with just four wins out of 14 matches, CSK is determined to make a strong comeback.

They have made headlines with a blockbuster trade involving Rajasthan Royals, which is considered one of the biggest moves in IPL history. In a surprising swap, CSK traded Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran for Sanju Samson, who recently made waves with a match-winning unbeaten 97 against the West Indies, helping India secure a spot in the semi-finals.
