As the assembly elections approach in Assam, political activities are ramping up, with all eyes now on the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Voting for three Rajya Sabha seats from the state is scheduled for March 16. The ruling NDA coalition has already announced its candidates for these positions.
According to current reports, the BJP has nominated candidates Terash Gowala and Jogen Mohan. Additionally, Pramod Boro, the president of the United People's Party Liberal, has also submitted his nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat. This process was completed in the presence of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
After filing his nomination, Pramod Boro stated that he has formally submitted his papers and will seek support from legislators across various parties. He expressed hope that all lawmakers would vote in favor of his candidacy, keeping the state's interests in mind.
It is noteworthy that following the recent delimitation, the number of seats in the Bodoland region has increased from 11 to 15. In light of this, Boro mentioned that his party is preparing for these seats and will soon outline a strategy for the coalition.
Reports indicate that this Rajya Sabha election is taking place due to the expiration of terms for three current MPs. Rameshwar Teli and Bhubeneshwar Kalita, both BJP members, are concluding their terms, along with Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, who has been associated with the Regional People's Front.
However, opposition parties have yet to announce their candidates. Political analysts believe that the opposition may clarify its strategy in the coming days, potentially making the Rajya Sabha elections even more intriguing.
