- With the help of a new digital tool, a person will be helped to understand the possible risk of cancer.
- The risk is to be estimated based on certain personal and lifestyle information.
- This will make it easier to screen people in high-risk groups in time.
of cancer Screening the entire population is not feasible in a country like India due to the increasing number of patients. In such a situation, if the individuals who are at higher risk of cancer can be identified in advance, timely examination and treatment can be possible. For this purpose, a new mobile app is being developed by Tata Hospital.
Every diabetic patient should eat these 2 fruits, its consumption is not less than any medicine… advised by the doctor
Experts are of the opinion that this will help control cancer by early screening of women in high risk groups. Director of ‘Center for Cancer Epidemiology’ at Tata Hospital Dr. Rajesh Dixit said that it is not possible to screen everyone for cancer due to limited resources in India. Therefore, it is necessary to identify those individuals who are at higher risk.
How to determine risk
The proposed app will use a statistical model to estimate the risk of cancer of a person after filling in the information of age, body mass index, number of children, menopausal status, waist-hip ratio and some lifestyle factors. Initially the ‘relative risk’ will be determined and compared with the incidence of cancer in the Indian population to determine the ‘absolute risk’.
It was also clarified that this app will be completely free and the personal information of the users will not be stored on any server, it will remain only in the respective mobile. Currently, work is underway to assess the risk of buccal mucosa (oral cancer) and gallbladder cancer along with prostate cancer through this app. This app is likely to be available by November-December this year.
The risk of breast cancer is increasing in the country! 74% increase in deaths since 1990; A serious concern of experts
Director of Center for Cancer Epidemiology Dr. Rajesh Dixit said, “In a country with a large population like India, it is not possible to screen every person for cancer, so early identification and screening of those who are at high risk of cancer is a more effective way. The proposed mobile app will give a person basic information about their risk and if needed, timely screening can detect cancer at an early stage”.
