From Rozana To Cent — Indian Startups Raised $98 Mn This Week

While February saw an escalating push in the funding activity, the first week of March saw muted responses from the investors. Between March 2 to 6, the Indian startup ecosystem raised a mere $97.6 Mn, down 56% from $219.8 Mn raised in the previous week.

This amount was raised across 11 deals, a third of the funding deals reported in the last week of February.

Key Startup Funding Highlights Of The Week

  • Ecommerce topped the sectoral funding charts this week. The sector saw a capital infusion of $39.5 Mn across four deals this week.
  • This week’s seed funding declined to $5.9 Mn across two deals, from $32.5 Mn raised across 15 deals In the previous week.
  • B2C startups lapped the majority of funds deployed across the startup ecosystem this week, with six startups raising $69.1 Mn.
  • No specific investor stood out this week. However, Bertelsmann India Investments (BII), Bessemer Venture Partners, and Prime Venture Partners invested in some of the bigger rounds.
Startup IPO Updates This Week
  • After closing its IPO with a 2.68X oversubscription on Friday, deeptech startup SEDEMAC is now set to make its public market debut on March 11 (Wednesday).
  • Fintech unicorn Moneyview filed its DRHPwith SEBI for an IPO this week.The proposed IPO is expected to comprise a fresh issue of shares worth ₹1,500 Cr and an OFS of up to 13.61 Cr equity shares by existing shareholders
  • Online furniture rental startup RentoMojo initiated the process of its IPO by converting to a public limited company, a prerequisite step for a public offering in India.
Startup M&A Updates This Week
  • MakeMyTrip is going to acquire a majority stake in regional tour operator FlamingoTransworld to expand its holiday packages business. Flamingo Transworld offers domestic and international group tour packages with a strong presence in western and central India.
  • B2B seafood delivery startup Captain Fresh completed the acquisition of Spanish tuna producer Frime to add tuna as its third major fish supply category after crustaceans and salmon.
Other Developments Of The Week
  • Inc42 learnt that recently launched Bengaluru-based quick commerce startup BaazarNow is in talks with investors like Peak XV Partners, Antler and Whiteboard Capital to raise $9 Mn for expanding operations.
  • D2C startup Bonkers Corner is in advanced discussions with investors to raise about $15 Mn in its ongoing Series A funding round. The funding round is expected to comprise both primary fund infusion as well as secondary transactions.
