Renowned playback singer Kumar Sanu, who has captivated audiences in Hindi cinema for decades, is currently in the spotlight due to a legal dispute with his ex-wife, Rita Bhattacharya. The singer has filed a defamation lawsuit seeking ₹50 crores against her. The Bombay High Court has been hearing this case, and a significant development has emerged that has surprised many.
During the court proceedings, Sanu's legal team indicated that he would be willing to withdraw the case if his ex-wife publicly apologizes. Sanu's lawyer, Sana Rais Khan, spoke to the media, explaining that the singer felt compelled to take this step due to Rita's recent interviews, which allegedly harmed his reputation. According to her, Sanu chose this legal route to protect his image.
Angered by Rita's Interviews, Sanu Approaches Court
The lawyer mentioned that Rita had raised questions about Sanu's personal life and character in several interviews. Furthermore, she made comments regarding his current life and their daughters. Sanu expressed that hearing such remarks as a father was extremely difficult for him. When the situation escalated, he decided to file a defamation case in court. During the hearings, the Bombay High Court granted some relief to the singer.
High Court Issues Restraint on Defamatory Statements
Earlier in January, the court had issued an interim order prohibiting Rita Bhattacharya from making defamatory statements against Sanu. During the hearings, Justice Jadhav advised both parties to resolve the matter amicably, considering their past relationship and their three children. Lawyer Sana Rais Khan stated that Sanu respects this advice and is open to resolving the issue given their history.
Sanu Willing to Withdraw Case for Public Apology
However, there is a condition attached. The singer wants Rita to publicly apologize on all platforms where she made statements about him. If she complies with this request, Sanu may consider withdrawing the case. The lawyer also mentioned that several media outlets published these statements without proper verification, damaging the singer's image. Currently, his legal team is working to remove any reels and videos that contain negative remarks against him.
