Atul Agnihotri tops UPSC civil services exam: Check his journey, age, attempts, education and more

Anuj Agnihotri Tops UPSC Civil Services 2025
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), on Friday, declared the final results of the Civil Services Examination 2025, with Anuj Agnihotri, a doctor by profession from Rawatbhata in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh district, securing the top position.

Anuj Agnihotri had previously cleared the UPSC examination.

In his first attempt in 2023, he was allotted the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Services (DANICS) and was appointed as an Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Delhi, joining the service in December 2024.


In his second attempt, Agnihotri cleared the UPSC Mains, but could not make it through the interview stage.

However, in his third attempt, Agnihotri achieved the top rank in the country.

Agnihotri's UPSC journey

Anuj Agnihotri on Friday expressed happiness after securing All India Rank 1 in the civil services examination, describing the preparation as a “gruelling journey” that ultimately ended with a rewarding outcome.

Speaking to Asian News International, Agnihotri said he began preparing for the exam during his internship in 2022 and cleared it with the top rank in his third attempt. Earlier, he had qualified for the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Service and is currently undergoing training for the same.

When asked about his preparation strategy, he said he did not keep track of the number of hours spent studying but emphasised that the journey demanded sustained effort. Agnihotri added that he hopes to begin his career as a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and aims to move to higher responsibilities through continued hard work.

"I'm feeling good. I gave my first attempt for the UPSC CSE in 2023. I started preparing during my internship in 2022, and it's 2026 now, so obviously, it's been a long time. The journey to UPSC requires a lot of effort. It's a gruelling journey, but the final result is good, so everything feels good..."

"Family supported me in my journey a lot, and my aspirant friends also provided a lot of insightful inputs, which helped me learn with more focus," he stated while advising young aspirants to develop a well-rounded personality through various school activities and not to lose hope in their studies.

His father, KB Agnihotri, expressed pride in his son’s achievement and praised his dedication and perseverance. He also noted that Anuj’s mother had sacrificed her career to support his upbringing and education.

Meanwhile, his mother, Asha Agnihotri, spoke about her son’s determination during the preparation period and said he remained optimistic throughout the process. She expressed immense happiness and satisfaction over his success.

The remarks came after the Union Public Service Commission announced the final results of the civil services examination 2025 earlier in the day. While the second and third ranks were secured by Rajeshwari Suve M and Akansh Dhull, a total of 958 candidates made it to the merit list.


Agnihotri's education

He has completed his MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences Jodhpur in Jodhpur.
