News India Live, Digital Desk: During his two-day visit to Kerala, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has given a big statement on the film ‘The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond’. While interacting with students at Marian College, Kuttikkanam in Idukki district, Rahul Gandhi termed the film as a ‘propaganda tool’ and claimed that the aim of such films is to create hatred and division in the society. “Cinemas remaining empty is good news.” When a student asked Rahul Gandhi a question on films being made a medium of propaganda, he directly referred to ‘The Kerala Story 2’. Rahul said, “The good news is that the theaters of ‘Kerala Story 2’ are lying empty and no one is watching it. This shows that most of the people of this country understand the real traditions and culture of Kerala and they are rejecting the politics of hate.” Rahul Gandhi, while targeting the central government and ideologies, said that in today’s era, films, television and media have been ‘weaponised’. Conspiracy to defame: According to him, these mediums are being used to defame people, isolate them from society and widen the gap between communities so that certain people can take political advantage of it. Attack on freedom of speech: Rahul also alleged that if someone wants to express his views freely or make a different kind of film, he is attacked, while huge amounts of money are being used to spread stories with a particular agenda. Money is being spent in Kerala’s culture. Rahul Gandhi, former MP from Wayanad, praised the people of Kerala and said that he has learned a lot from the people here. Referring to the recent landslide tragedy, he told how the people of Kerala helped each other without any discrimination. According to Rahul, “This is the real story of Kerala, unity and compassion, and not the one which is shown in the films.” Let us tell you that ‘The Kerala Story 2’ was released on 27 February 2026. While BJP supporters and filmmakers have called it a ‘mirror’ of the society, the opposition parties are calling it a film spreading communal hatred. According to box office reports, the film has made a business of around ₹22 crore in the first week, which is considered much less than its first part.
