India has won the T-20 World Cup for the third time by defeating New Zealand. India became the team to win the T-20 World Cup twice in a row. For the first time a host team has won the T-20 World Cup.
New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Team India, who came to bat first, had scored a record 255 runs in the T-20 World Cup final.
Sanju Samson scored the highest score of 89 runs in the T-20 World Cup final. Ishan Kishan scored 54 and Abhishek Sharma scored 52 runs. In the end Shivam Dubey scored 26 runs on 8 balls. Jimmy Neesham got 3 wickets from New Zealand.
New Zealand did not have a good start while chasing runs. Apart from Seifert (52) and captain Santner (43), no batsman could stand against the Indian bowlers. The entire team was out for 159 runs in 19 overs. New Zealand suffered its biggest defeat in the T-20 World Cup final in terms of runs.
Special records made in Indian innings
- The team completed 100 runs in 7.2 overs. Which is the record of fastest 100 runs by any team in the knockout matches of T-20 World Cup.
- The Indian team equaled the highest score of the World Cup in the powerplay. The previous record was 92/1, which was made by West Indies in the 2024 World Cup.
- Samson became the highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup final. He broke the record of 85 runs of Marlon Samuel of West Indies.
