According to The StarLi made the remarks while attending a spiritual lecture in Taiwan. During the talk, the 63-year-old actor said that at the time Jada, now 23, would often lock herself in her room after returning home from school and refused to talk to him.

“I really failed in my role,” Li said. “I was so busy doing charity work outside and didn’t take proper care of my own child at home.”

Realizing the distance between them, Li said he later changed his approach to parenting.

“In the end, I chose to walk the journey with her. Rather than telling her what to do, I followed her lead,” he said. “She taught me how to listen.”

Jada, who attended the event with her father, also shared her perspective. According to AsiaOneshe said her recovery took several years and involved visiting psychologists, practicing meditation and studying Buddhism. During that time, Li set aside other commitments to support her, and the two spent three years traveling across China to learn more about Buddhist teachings.

“Over the past few years, he has not only been my father and teacher, but a very good friend to me,” she said. “I’ve learned a lot from him, and I’m glad to be able to help him.”

Born in Beijing, Li faced financial hardship after his father died when he was two years old. Recognized for his talent in wushu at the age of eight, he later became China’s national all-around champion from 1975 to 1979 before retiring at 18 due to a knee injury. He subsequently worked as an assistant coach for the Beijing Wushu team.

His sporting success helped launch a film career in martial arts cinema. His breakthrough movie “Shaolin Temple” became a box-office hit in China in 1982, earning 161 million yuan. Its 1984 sequel “Kids From Shaolin” went on to become the highest-grossing film in the country that year.

Li later made his international debut in the 1998 film “Lethal Weapon 4” and went on to appear in Hollywood films including “The Expendables” and “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.”

In 2011, Li confirmed he had obtained Singaporean citizenship, according to AFP.

Jada and her elder sister Jane Li, 26, are the two daughters Li shares with his second wife, Hong Kong actress Nina Li Chi. The actor also has two older daughters, 39-year-old Si Li and Taimi Li, 38, from his first marriage to Huang Qiuyan, a fellow member of the Beijing Wushu Team and his co-star in “Kids From Shaolin.”
