But if you take too many pills, their function can be impaired. A study conducted in Canada and published in JAMA looked at patients with kidney disease due to diabetes. In this study, some patients were given high doses of vitamins B12 and B6. Surprisingly, those who took these high doses experienced a faster decline in kidney function than those who took a placebo.

This doesn't mean that vitamin B12 is harmful to everyone. On the contrary, if the body is deficient in B12, it is important to take adequate amounts. However, people with pre-existing kidney disease, diabetes, or who are taking other medications need to be especially cautious before taking supplements. This is because many medications can alter the body's absorption of vitamin B12. Additionally, sometimes taking vitamin B12 with other vitamins or medications can alter its effects. For example, taking too much vitamin C can interfere with B12 absorption. Therefore, it is important to consult a doctor before taking multiple supplements at once.
