India entered the history books by winning the T20 World Cup for a 3rd time. They are also the first hosts and the first to defend the title. But now something even greater is beckoning them. Achieving it would take the Men in Blue into the history books once more. It’s something they came close to doing twice but no team has achieved it till now.
ODI World Cup Next on India’s RadarOne must remember that India won the Champions Trophy last year and as of now, they are the reigning T20 World Cup champions and Champions Trophy winners. Up next is the 2027 ODI World Cup. If India win that, they will do what nobody has done before. So what is so great about the record?

No team in the history of international cricket has held all three ICC white-ball titles at the same time. India came close when they lost in the 2014 T20 World Cup final. At that time they were the reigning ODI champions having won in 2011 and Champions Trophy winners with the title won in 2013. If they had won in 2014, they would have created history. India came close yet again but they lost the ODI World Cup final in 2023. After that they won the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy. So if they had won the ODI World Cup, they would have achieve the historic feat by winning the Champions Trophy last year.
India and Australia Both Came Close to HistoryNot just India, Australia also came close twice. In 2007 they lost in the T20 World Cup semis. At that time, they were the reigning ODI champions having won the World Cup earlier in the same year and also Champions Trophy holders having clinched the title in 2006. In 2010, they lost in the T20 World Cup final while being 2009 Champions Trophy winners and 2007 ODI World Cup champions.

Now India have a chance to do it once again. They failed twice but 3rd time could be a charm. There is ample time to prepare for the ODI World Cup in South Africa. The last time the competition was played there, the Men in Blue made it to the final. Will they go the distance this time?
Shall Shubman Gill Follow the Footsteps of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav? It was Suryakumar Yadav who won the T20 World Cup and Rohit Sharma who clinched the Champions Trophy. Shall Shubman Gill continue the trend and win the ODI World Cup? We will find out in due time. If it happens, then it will take India into uncharted territory and set a benchmark for others to follow.
