Bengaluru: The Byadarahalli police have arrested the alleged mastermind behind the recent robbery in which miscreants posing as police officers entered the house of a real estate businessman and looted kilograms of gold jewellery and ₹20 lakh in cash.
The arrested accused has been identified as Bettegowda (52), a stamp vendor and a close friend of the victim, Hombegowda. Earlier, the police had arrested Nagendra, a prisoner, and his associate Bachchan in connection with the same case.
According to the police, the robbery took place on February 16 when the accused, disguised as police personnel, entered Hombegowda’s residence and carried out the heist before fleeing with the valuables.
Investigations revealed that Bettegowda, who was a close associate of Hombegowda, used to handle documentation related to the latter’s real estate business. He was aware that Hombegowda had cash from a recent site sale.
Police said Bettegowda contacted Nagendra, who had come out on parole from prison, and hatched the plan. Acting on the conspiracy, Nagendra along with his associate Bachchan allegedly entered Hombegowda’s house in police uniform and committed the robbery.
