Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyaan Satkar Yojana: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has announced a new scheme for women. Under this scheme, women will receive ₹1,000 per month, while Scheduled Caste (SC) women will receive ₹1,500 per month. The AAP had promised to provide ₹1,000 per month to women during the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema presented the 2026-27 budget in the state assembly, totaling ₹2.60 lakh crore. During the same period, he announced the "Mukhyamantri Mawan Dhiyaan Satkar Yojana." Under this scheme, the government will deposit money directly into women's bank accounts.
The Bhagwant Mann government has launched this new scheme nearly four years after coming to power in Punjab. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the government will deposit ₹1,500 per month into the accounts of Scheduled Caste (SC) women. The timing of this announcement was also significant, as it coincided with International Women's Day and marked the first time the state budget was presented on a Sunday.
Eligibility
Punjab's Finance Minister described this scheme as the world's first "universal cash transfer scheme." He stated that every woman above 18 years of age in Punjab will be able to avail of this scheme.
Who will not benefit?
Current or former government employees
Current or former MPs/MLAs
Women who pay income tax
₹9,300 crore will be spent on the scheme in the financial year 2026-27.
The scheme aims to empower women financially, increase their participation in household decisions, improve their health and nutrition, and encourage girls to pursue higher education. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that a budget of ₹9,300 crore has been allocated for this scheme in 2026-27 to ensure its timely and transparent implementation. This budget is the last budget of the Aam Aadmi Party government before the assembly elections to be held in early 2027.
