Kathmandu, Mar 10: Rabi Lamichhane, the Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), expressed his eagerness to enhance the relationship between Nepal and India through what he terms 'development diplomacy'. He extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his congratulatory message regarding the party's electoral achievements.
In a post shared on social media, Lamichhane acknowledged Modi's warm wishes and his recognition of the democratic choice made by the Nepali populace.
"Our government, alongside the RSP, is committed to nurturing a partnership grounded in mutual respect and shared growth, with a strong focus on 'development diplomacy'," he stated.
He further emphasized the desire for a collaborative relationship with India that aims to achieve new milestones in areas such as connectivity, cultural tourism, energy, and trade, ultimately ensuring a prosperous future for citizens of both nations.
Prime Minister Modi, in his message congratulating Lamichhane and Balendra Shah on their electoral success, reaffirmed India's dedication to collaborating for the mutual benefit and advancement of both countries.
Modi expressed confidence that through joint efforts, the relationship between India and Nepal would reach new heights in the coming years.
Balendra Shah is poised to become Nepal's first Madhesi Prime Minister and the youngest individual to hold the position of an elected executive head.
The House of Representatives (HoR) in Nepal comprises 275 seats, with 165 members elected via the First Past The Post (FPTP) system and 110 through proportional representation.
As of now, results for 161 out of the 165 direct voting seats have been announced, with the remaining four results expected shortly.
In the proportional voting segment, the RSP garnered 48,29,910 votes, leading ahead of the NC with 16,28,704 votes, followed by CPN-UML, NCP, Shram Sanskriti Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, and Rastriya Parivartan Party.
With over 40 lakh votes in the proportional representation category, the RSP is anticipated to secure at least 48 additional seats, bringing its total to approximately 164 in the 275-member House of Representatives, significantly surpassing the 138 required for a simple majority, according to political analysts.
