Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a new healthcare initiative while presenting the state’s budget for the financial year 2026–2027 in Chandigarh. During the address in the Punjab Legislative Assembly, the chief minister spoke about the proposed “Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana,” a scheme aimed at expanding access to healthcare services for residents of the state.

According to details shared during the budget presentation, the proposed plan intends to provide annual medical coverage of up to ₹10 lakh for every family in Punjab. The scheme is designed to support families by covering the cost of medical treatment and reducing financial pressure related to healthcare expenses. The announcement was made as part of broader discussions during the budget session about welfare measures and public services. Officials indicated that the scheme would focus on improving access to healthcare for a wide section of the population by providing financial support for treatment in medical institutions.

During the address, the chief minister described the healthcare programme as an important step aimed at strengthening the state’s public welfare system. The proposal is expected to extend medical coverage to households across the state, allowing them to access treatment without facing high out-of-pocket expenses. Healthcare coverage and medical assistance schemes have been a key topic in state policy discussions, especially in the context of rising treatment costs and the need for accessible medical services. The proposed initiative is expected to be integrated with existing healthcare infrastructure and hospitals to facilitate treatment for eligible families.

The budget presentation also included discussions on several other sectors, but the healthcare coverage plan was highlighted as a major component of the government’s welfare initiatives. If implemented as proposed, the scheme would potentially cover a large number of households across the state. The announcement forms part of the broader budget discussions in the state assembly, where policies and spending priorities for the upcoming financial year are being debated by lawmakers.
