As soon as the summer season starts, the use of fans, coolers and ACs in homes increases rapidly, as a result of which the electricity bill also increases. However, you can reduce these costs by adopting some smart practices. Let us know some such measures with the help of which you can reduce electricity consumption.
Set the correct AC temperature
If you are using an AC, it is best to set it at 24 to 26 degrees Celsius. Many people set the AC to 18 degrees, which increases electricity consumption. At this temperature the energy consumption of AC is less. Apart from this, running the fan along with the AC cools the room quickly, which puts less load on the AC. It is also necessary to clean the air filter of the AC every 15 days, because a dirty filter increases power consumption.
proper use of cooler
In summer, cooler consumes less electricity than AC, but misuse can increase its consumption. Always keep the cooler near the window, so that cold air from outside can come into the room. Don’t forget to clean the cooler pads and water tank from time to time, as dirty pads make the cooler work harder. It is also important to keep the cooler off when it is not needed, which saves electricity.
effective use of fans
Ceiling fan is the most used electronic appliance in Indian homes during summer. If you want to save electricity, use fans with BLDC technology. These fans consume about 60% less electricity than normal fans. They also have features like remote control, so you can turn the fan on or off without getting up.
proper use of refrigerator
Place the refrigerator at least 6 inches away from the wall, so that its hot air can escape. If the refrigerator has the option of summer and winter mode, select summer mode in summer. Opening the refrigerator door repeatedly and keeping hot food directly in the refrigerator should also be avoided, because this also increases the electricity consumption of the refrigerator.
Take care of electronic devices
Many electronic devices such as TVs, laptop chargers, and microwaves continue to consume power in standby mode even after they are turned off. Whenever you are not using them, switch them off completely or unplug them, so that unnecessary power consumption can be reduced.
Choose appliances with Star BEE rating
Whenever you buy a new electronic device, be sure to check its BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) rating. Appliances with higher star ratings consume less electricity. So always try to buy appliances with 5-star BEE rating, even if their initial price is a bit high.
Use of LED bulb
Old filament bulbs and tube lights consume more electricity. It is better to use LED bulbs instead, as they produce more light with less power and last longer, thereby saving electricity.
Adopt natural cooling methods
Using natural methods to keep the house cool is also beneficial. Keep the curtains closed during the day, especially in the afternoon, to prevent sunlight from heating the rooms. Open windows in the evening to allow cool air to flow in. If your house is on the top floor, applying white reflective paint on the ceiling can also help.
