In this article, we will explore an extremely powerful shloka in Bhagavad Gita that can quieten an overthinking or stressed mind in minutes. Read on.

Powerful Bhagavad Gita Shloka for Peace
In chapter 2 of Gita, Lord Krishna told Arjuna:

मात्रास्पर्शास्तु कौन्तेय शीतोष्णसुखदुःखदाः ।
आगमापायिनोऽनित्यास्तांस्तितिक्षस्व भारत ॥

mātrā‑sparśhās tu kaunteya śhītoṣhṇa‑sukha‑duḥkha‑dāḥ; āgamāpāyino ’nityās tāṁs titikṣhasva bhārata.

English Translation: Sensations and moods come and go like seasons; recognising their impermanence helps build patient endurance, so short‑term swings don’t derail long‑term purpose.

Lord Krishna’s Advice to Overcome Stress

For example, when a stressful thought arises in our minds, we should avoid reacting to it in any way. Become the observer and maintain awareness. After a few moments, the thought and sensation will lose all its power over you. The same applies for pleasant sensations or cravings as well. When desires for world elements begin to build up in your mind like wild fire, don’t react. Remember the truth of impermanence and observe it. You can focus on your breath for a few seconds in order to strengthen present moment awareness. After a while, you will notice that the desire or attachment has started to weaken and before you realise, it will be gone.

Lord Krishna About Meditation
In the important chapter named Dhyan Yoga, Bhagwan said:

“Seated firmly on it, the yogi should strive to purify the mind by focusing it in meditation with one pointed concentration, controlling all thoughts and activities. He must hold the body, neck, and head firmly in a straight line, and gaze at the tip of the nose, without allowing the eyes to wander.”

Here, the most important idea is “one pointed concentration.” The great Indian sage Rama Maharshi, who attained Moksha through Jnana Yoga, said that meditation is the ability to maintain focus on a single thought without wavering. So, we should sit in a quiet place and focus our mind on a single thing. You can keep an image of Lord Krishna in front of you. Observe it for sometime. Then, close your eyes and maintain the image in your mind for as long as you can.

Otherwise you can practice mindfulness meditation as well. Focus on your breath going and coming out through your nostrils. By meditating everyday, we can slowly, but surely attain mastery of our minds.
