Esmaeil Baghaeispokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iranhas strongly criticized a newly adopted resolution by the United Nations Security Council that condemns Iran for attacks targeting several Gulf states and Jordan. In a statement published Wednesday on the social media platform XBaghaei asserted that the resolution was fundamentally inconsistent with the legal framework governing international relations. According to the statement, the Iranian government believes the measure misrepresents core principles embedded in the United Nations Charter and broader norms of international law. Baghaei argued that the text of the resolution overlooked Tehran’s position that its actions were carried out in what it considers self defence. He indicated that Iran viewed the developments as part of a broader conflict involving the United States and Israeland maintained that the resolution’s sponsors had ignored what Tehran described as an instance of unprovoked aggression directed at the country.

Tehran Urges Countries Not to Support What It Calls a U.S. and Israeli War Effort Against Iran

In the same statement, Baghaei said Iran regarded the resolution as legally flawed and urged other countries not to provide assistance to what Tehran characterizes as an illegal war effort led by the United States and Israel. The spokesperson maintained that Iran had no intention of infringing on the sovereignty or territorial integrity of neighbouring states, including those in the Gulf region, and emphasized that Iranian authorities believed they had exercised significant restraint in their actions.

The diplomatic exchange underscores continuing tensions within the United Nations system over the interpretation of self defence under international law and the political framing of regional security developments. The resolution itself condemns Iranian strikes directed toward Gulf countries and Jordan, while Iran’s official response focuses on contesting the legal reasoning behind the measure and reiterating its claim that its actions were defensive in nature.

Baghaei’s remarks, published directly through the foreign ministry’s communication on X, serve as Tehran’s formal public response to the Security Council decision and highlight the widening legal and diplomatic divide between Iran and several members of the international community regarding accountability and regional stability.
