Disappearance Details

Nancy Guthrie, aged 84 and the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, has been unaccounted for since February 1st. She was last spotted on January 31st when she returned to her residence in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson. The next day, after missing a planned church livestream and not answering family calls, she was reported as missing.

Despite extensive efforts, including involvement from the FBI, the Pima County Sheriff's Department, drone searches, forensic experts, and a substantial reward of $1 million, no significant leads have surfaced in the case.

Surveillance Footage Insights What the Surveillance Footage Shows

Authorities have obtained surveillance footage showing a masked individual near Guthrie's home on February 1st, shortly before the camera was disabled. The suspect, described as being between 5'9" and 5'10", was seen wearing a ski mask and gloves while carrying a backpack. He attempted to tamper with the camera before obscuring its lens with plants. Notably, a holster that seemed to contain a firearm was also visible, marking it as the most substantial evidence released in the investigation thus far.

Expert Analysis of the Footage What a Private Investigator Found in That Footage

Private investigator Lisa Ribacoff-Mooney analyzed the surveillance video and shared her insights with a media outlet. She suggested that the suspect appeared to lack professional training or experience. Ribacoff-Mooney observed that the firearm seemed to be improperly carried, indicating the individual might not be familiar with weapons. Additionally, she noted that simply covering a camera does not erase its recorded data, a fact that a more seasoned criminal would likely understand. She also highlighted the suspect's backpack, which had reflective elements, making it easier to spot at night, further suggesting a lack of tactical planning. Overall, her assessment points to someone who acted with intent but without the expertise typically associated with professional criminals.
