Kai Rooney tipped to become millionaire this year thanks to Man Utd wonderkid's new deal

Kai Rooney could be poised for as much as a £3million windfall after the Manchester United youngster put pen to paper with a management firm. That's the view of Professor Jonathan Shalit, chairman of talent agency InterTalent, who believes the 16-year-old will achieve multi-millionaire status following his deal with Triple S Sports Management earlier this week.

The striker, son of club legend Wayne, is now represented by the same firm his iconic father was signed to, with the company owned by Rooney senior's long-standing agent, Paul Stretford.

The announcement of Kai's signing was made on Instagram with a post stating: "Delighted to announce the signing of @kairooney.10 to Triple S Sports! We're excited to begin working with the Manchester United forward as he continues his journey in the game. A bright future ahead. Welcome to the team, Kai!"

Already featuring for United's U18s, Kai has caught the eye of those at Old Trafford and according to Shalit, who has worked with music legends Sting and Cher, the teenager's latest career move is one that will deliver substantial financial rewards.

He told the MEN: "He's already ticking many boxes, so I would assume in the next year, he could probably make £2-3million pounds. I think because he's called Rooney, he'll have millions of followers immediately.

"And clearly, he plays for one of the best clubs in the world. So, coming from the heritage of his parents and playing for the best clubs in the world gives him that immediate value because of the value that normally a youngster wouldn't have."

Professor Shalit maintained that Kai could easily secure endorsements and suggested Wayne's transition into punditry and Coleen's rise in reality television can enhance their teenage son's commercial image.

"Kai could very quickly [advertise for] sporting and lifestyle brands because he's a very vibrant, energetic teenager with the name Rooney which still means a great deal," he continued.

"His father is brilliantly reinventing himself as a TV pundit, his mother is much-loved and he's got talent, he wouldn't be playing for Man United because of his surname, he's playing for Man United because of his talent."

Whilst his preferred position is on the right wing, Kai has followed in his father's footsteps when it comes to scoring goals. The youngster netted four times in a 6-2 PL Cup semi-final victory over Norwich for the Under-16s before being promoted to the U18s.

He's made five appearances at this level - each time coming on as a substitute - and has found the back of the net once in just 91 minutes of play. He was given 28 minutes on the pitch in United's 5-2 win over Nottingham Forest last week.
