Tips to get relief from headache in summer
New Delhi: In case of headache in winter, people often make and drink hot decoction of ginger, basil or clove, which gives them quick relief. But in summer, when the body is already hot, it becomes difficult to consume such hot decoction. The problem of headache arises due to strong sunlight, sweat and lack of water, which can sometimes cause dizziness and fatigue. The good thing is that there are many effective remedies for summer headache in Ayurveda and home remedies, which provide cooling effect and can be easily adopted in everyday life.
Major causes of headache in summer
In hot weather, water gets released from the body rapidly, which leads to dehydration. Due to this, the blood flow in the brain gets affected and headache starts. Spending too much time in the sun causes UV rays and heat to directly affect the scalp. Sometimes suddenly going into a cold room can increase the pain.
Importance of hydration
It is most important to keep the body hydrated. One should drink 3-4 liters of water daily. Drinks like coconut water, lemon water or buttermilk provide electrolytes and keep you cool. Drinking in small sips gives better results.
use of cold compress
Placing a cool wet cloth on the forehead or neck reduces swelling and provides immediate relief from pain. Keep it for 10-15 minutes and sit comfortably.
cooling foods
Cold foods like watermelon, cucumber, curd and mint reduce body heat. These are rich in water and help prevent headaches. Their intake should be increased daily.
Basil-Ginger Tea
Instead of hot decoction, make light cold tea of basil and ginger and drink it. Basil provides cooling effect and ginger reduces inflammation. Drinking it without heating it too much is beneficial even in summer.
head and neck massage
Light massage with sesame or coconut oil reduces body heat and improves blood circulation. Applying sandalwood or mint oil on the forehead also provides relief.
Ways to avoid sunlight
Wear a cap or scarf while going out. Don’t spend too much time in the sun. Carry an umbrella and rest in a shady place.
rest and relaxation
Lie down in a dark and quiet room. Take deep breaths and reduce stress. Headache can also be controlled by yoga or meditation.
When to contact a doctor
If headache persists, vomiting or dizziness occurs, consult a doctor. These are general measures, investigation is necessary in serious problems.
