Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi during a programme held in Guwahati in the northeastern state of Assam. The payment was transferred through the direct benefit transfer system to millions of farmers across the country as part of the government’s income support scheme for agricultural households.

According to official figures shared during the announcement, funds were credited to the bank accounts of around 9.32 crore farmers nationwide. The installment is part of the scheme’s regular payment cycle, under which eligible farmer families receive financial assistance in three installments each year. Farmers in Uttar Pradesh accounted for a significant share of the beneficiaries. More than 2.15 crore farmers from the state received payments in the latest installment, with over ₹4,335 crore transferred directly into their bank accounts.

Data released in connection with the programme indicates that Uttar Pradesh has consistently recorded one of the highest numbers of beneficiaries under the scheme. Prior to the latest transfer, farmers in the state had already received over ₹94,668 crore through the first 21 installments. With the release of the 22nd installment, the cumulative amount transferred to farmers in the state has crossed ₹99,003 crore. The PM-Kisan scheme provides eligible farmer families with financial assistance of ₹6,000 annually. The amount is distributed in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each and is transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the DBT mechanism.

The programme was originally launched in 2019 in Gorakhpur, and it has since expanded to cover millions of farmers across the country. Officials state that the objective of the initiative is to support small and marginal farmers by providing them with supplementary financial resources that can be used for agricultural or household needs. Following the release of the latest installment, Yogi Adityanath acknowledged the transfer and noted that a large number of farmers in Uttar Pradesh were among those who received payments in this cycle.

The scheme continues to operate as part of the broader agricultural support framework implemented by the central government.
