Gujarat Government Prioritizes Youth Skill Development and Worker Welfare

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, the Gujarat government has pledged to enhance skill development for the youth and ensure the overall welfare of workers. This commitment was highlighted in a recent announcement.


Labor Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya revealed on Saturday that a significant allocation of ₹2,902 crores has been earmarked for the Labor, Skill Development, and Employment Department in the 2026-27 budget.


Budget Aims to Realize Development Goals

During a press conference at the state assembly, Bavaliya stated that this budget will play a crucial role in realizing the vision of 'Developed Gujarat 2047' and contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goals for a 'Developed India 2047' and a self-reliant nation. The Gujarat government has announced several new initiatives and budget allocations aimed at strengthening skill development, creating job opportunities, and enhancing worker welfare across the state.


Funding for Skill Development Initiatives

According to the announcement, ₹226 crores have been allocated under the Namo Gujarat Skill and Employment Mission to boost the employability of youth. Additionally, ₹200 crores have been set aside for the PM Setu Scheme, which aims to upgrade Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) through a hub-and-spoke model to enhance the state's skill training infrastructure. Furthermore, the government has allocated ₹40 crores for the Namo Kaushalya Laxmi Scheme, designed to encourage female students to pursue courses at ITIs. Under this scheme, female students will receive financial assistance of ₹15,000 for one-year courses and ₹24,000 for two-year courses.


Worker Welfare Initiatives Expanded

The state government has also expanded several worker welfare initiatives. The Labor Annapurna Scheme has received ₹200 crores, which will enable the opening of 300 new Annapurna booths where workers can access meals for just ₹5. Additionally, ₹150 crores have been allocated for the Labor Shelter Scheme, aimed at providing affordable housing for construction workers. The government has also set aside ₹160 crores for the expansion of the Dhanvantari Arogya Rath program, which will enhance health services for workers by adding 50 mobile health units.
