Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has signed Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). KKR has included Muzarabani in its team as a replacement for Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman. Following BCCI’s instructions, KKR had released Mustafizur, after which there was a vacancy in their team for a foreign pacer.
Three-time IPL champion KKR added Muzarabani to its team to fill this spot. Muzarabani has rejected the Pakistan Super League (PSL) contract to play IPL. He was signed by PSL franchise Islamabad United but as soon as he got the IPL offer, he broke the contract with Islamabad United. Now Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing to take action against him.
Will PCB ban Muzarabani?
A PCB source told news agency PTI on Saturday (March 14) that the board has directed its legal department to register a case against the Zimbabwean player. The source said, ‘Since last year, IPL and PSL are happening at the same time, so now the timings of both are clashing with each other. We want to give a clear message to the players that once they agree to play in the PSL, they cannot simply break their contract and sign a new contract with any IPL franchise.
Last year, South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch left PSL and came to play IPL. Bosch was signed by Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement after the PCB banned him for one PSL season. Bosch later apologized to PCB. PCB had also talked about taking legal action against him and demanding compensation.
Now it remains to be seen what action is taken against Muzarabani. Let us tell you that Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis and Australia’s Mitchell Owen also left PSL. In May last year, when the PSL was stopped for a few days due to tension between Pakistan and India, both these players joined the IPL.
