A Nigerian woman who moved to Liverpool a year ago has revealed the nine amusing "signs" which prove she's "officially becoming British". Solace Ojotule relocated from Nigeria to the UK to further her education.

The successful student hails from a small community in Kogi State, Nigeria, where she grew up surrounded by nature. Her picturesque childhood home boasted fresh fruit growing in the garden - though it didn't have electricity for eight years.

In a YouTube video, she recounted her experiences and expressed her concerns about the limited opportunities available to her.

  • Nationwide big change for anyone with ISA or savings account from today
  • Man surprised mum with flowers on Mother’s Day before he brutally attacked her and left her to die

On her website, she wrote: "I grew up in a small community in Kogi State, Nigeria, where my mother – an incredibly strong widow – raised me.

"From a young age, I was made to feel that, as a girl, I somehow mattered less in a society that favoured boys."

Determined to transform her life and pursue her education, Solace secured the esteemed Mastercard Foundation Scholarship to study Africa and International Development at the University of Edinburgh.

In addition to her time in Scotland, she's also lived in London. More recently, she moved to Liverpool and, on Instagram, hailed her Merseyside relocation as "one of the best decisions [she] ever made".

After studying, living and working in the UK, she's acclimatised to the way of life here and feels like an "official" Brit.

In a recent Instagram post, she shared a series of images highlighting her life in Liverpool, along with nine light-hearted reasons that have contributed to this feeling:

  • She now Says "fair enough" for "literally everything"
  • She considers 2 degrees Celsius a "bit chilly"
  • She "ends emails or conversations with 'cheers' and 'cheers mate'"
  • When "mad", she "sprinkles" words like "knackered, absolutely mental and sod it" into conversations
  • She "eats runny eggs like it's normal"
  • She "drinks tea every now and then" and feels "judged" when she doesn't
  • She views "walking slowly in the rain as a life skill"
  • She's started saying "sorry" to "inanimate objects" like tables and doors when she "bumps" them
  • And, finally, she now queues "patiently" and "actually gets annoyed when people don't"
  • In her post's caption, Solace wrote: "If you've been abroad for a minute... you'll see yourself somewhere in this. Which one did I miss? Where did you see yourself in all of this".

The comments section was flooded with reactions from fellow Instagram users eager to share their thoughts and experiences. One person said: "I now say 'bye, bye bye by, by, by, by, bye' at the end of every phone call".

Another said: "Saying 'No worries' instead of 'you're welcome' when someone says 'thank you'."

A third shared: "I love it! You end every Friday meeting with 'What are you doing for the weekend?' And begin Monday greetings with, 'what did do you do for the weekend?'"

Someone else commented: "Saying 'Aww Bless him/her' at the slightest".

Another said: "When you use 'loo' instead of toilet and 'tenner' instead of £10".

And another added: "You smile even when you don't mean it".
