New Delhi: A Travelling Ticket Inspector (TTI) from Central Railway’s Mumbai Division has crossed the Rs 1 crore mark in ticket-checking earnings during the financial year 2025-26. The milestone makes him the first official in the Mumbai Division to achieve such a figure.
According to Central Railway, Mohammed Shams Chand detected a large number of ticketless travel cases during the year. His work generated significant revenue through penalties collected from passengers travelling without valid tickets.
Record earnings in ticket checkingCentral Railway said Mohammed Shams Chand belongs to the Open Detail Batch in the Mumbai Division. Between April 1, 2025 and March 15, 2026, he detected 11,483 cases of ticketless or irregular travel.
The railway administration said his ticket-checking drives resulted in earnings of Rs 1,00,38,505 during the period. With this amount, he became the first ticket-checking official in the Mumbai Division to cross the Rs 1 crore mark in a single financial year.
Officials said the achievement reflects strong enforcement of ticket rules and effective monitoring of passenger travel.
Action against ticketless travelRailway authorities said the efforts helped reduce the number of passengers travelling without tickets. The checks also prevented a large revenue loss to the national transporter.
Officials added that strict ticket inspections encourage passengers to follow travel rules. They said the performance has also created a benchmark for other ticket-checking staff in the division.
Railway advisory to passengersCentral Railway urged passengers to travel only with valid tickets purchased through authorised channels. These include station booking counters, Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), authorised vendors and the official website of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
Passengers can also book tickets through the Rail One mobile application.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards ticketless travel, the railway administration said it remains committed to ensuring a safe, comfortable and dignified journey for passengers.
