Los Angeles [US], March 16 (ANI): 'Sinners' writer-director Ryan Coogler made a special shout-out for his wife, Zinzi Coogler and their three children, after accepting the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay at the 2026 Oscars.
Coogler was present at the ceremony with his wife Zinzi, the producer of the 1930s-set vampire film.
"Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler, you guys are the best producers in the world, and Zinzi, you are the best wife and mom in the world," the director said at the Oscars ceremony, after 'Sinners' won the Best Original Screenplay.
In a nod to his wife, Coogler said, "Every day I get to spend with you is better than the one that came before it. And to my parents who are here, thank you for all the memories, thank you for making me believe in myself."
The filmmaker, while mentioning his children, added, "To my babies that are at home watching, I apologise for all the time away. Dad loves you. Memories are all we have, and I'll give you some great ones, and y'all are blessed to live a long life, and when Dad becomes just a memory, I want you to remember this one thing: I love y'all more than anything. Thank you."
Ryan Coogler's directorial 'Sinners' bagged the Best Original Screenplay award. He defeated Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie for Marty Supreme, Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier for Sentimental Value, and Robert Kaplow for Blue Moon to clinch the prestigious award.
With this win, Ryan Coogler became only the second Black writer to receive the award, following Jordan Peele, who won in 2018 for Get Out.
Actor Michael B Jordan also took home his first-ever Oscar on Sunday night for his performance in 'Sinners'.
"I stand here because of the people that came before me," Jordan said before shouting out the prior Black lead acting Oscar winners: Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker and Will Smith."To be amongst those giants, those greats, amongst my ancestors, amongst my guys...," Michael said in his acceptance speech.
The film also won Best Original Song and Best Cinematography awards at the Oscars. (ANI)
