According to investigation, all these accused had come to India on valid visas, but in violation of the rules, they went to Mizoram without a permit. From here they entered the Myanmar border illegally and came in contact with anti-India armed ethnic groups. NIA claims that the accused ordered a large quantity of drones from Europe, which were transported to Myanmar via Mizoram. These drones were to be used to provide technical and weapons support to the rebel groups.
The agency is considering this entire network to be linked to terrorist funding and cross-border activities. During the action, an American citizen was caught from Kolkata Airport, while three Ukrainian citizens each were detained from Lucknow and Delhi Airport. All the accused were brought to Delhi and presented in the court, from where they were given custody for the first three days and later the remand was extended till March 27.
NIA told the court that it is necessary to interrogate the accused to fully expose the conspiracy, find out the sources of funding and nab the absconding accomplices. The agency is now also investigating the mobile data and social media accounts of the accused, so that the entire network can be exposed. In this case, a case has been registered against the accused under several serious sections including Section 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
