In the context of these changing times, it is often observed that students appear visibly anxious after the completion of their various board examinations. Preoccupied with thoughts of what their results might hold, they frequently succumb to stress. However, this is precisely the time when—instead of worrying about the results—they should focus more intently on what they wish to pursue in the future; by doing so, they can undoubtedly take decisive steps toward a brighter tomorrow. With these considerations in mind, the Local-18 team held an exclusive conversation with Prof. Sanjay Kumar of the Department of Psychology at Chaudhary University, who offered a range of valuable tips for the youth.
Deliberate Carefully on Course Selection
Speaking exclusively with the Local-18 team, Prof. Sanjay Kumar, a psychologist, advised students to engage in thoughtful deliberation regarding which subject they wish to pursue at the undergraduate level after their board exams have concluded. He noted that it is a common occurrence for students to attempt to simply follow in the footsteps of their friends. However, since every individual possesses unique capabilities and distinct judgment, students should—rather than focusing on what their friends are doing—identify the course in which they themselves can excel and direct their efforts toward that specific field.
A Bright Future Awaits in Every Subject
He explained that all undergraduate disciplines—whether Arts, Commerce, or Science—are equally excellent. Young individuals can build a successful future in whichever field they possess a strong command. He pointed out that students in the Arts stream can aspire to hold prestigious positions such as IAS or PCS officers; those in Commerce can pursue careers as Chartered Accountants or handle various finance-related roles; and those in Science can become scientists or doctors. Thus, there are myriad possibilities available to the youth in every sector; ultimately, however, it depends on the individual to determine which subject best aligns with their potential for excellence.
Parents Should Refrain from Exerting Pressure
Prof. Kumar observed that parents often exert pressure on their children in an attempt to fulfill their own unfulfilled dreams. Instead of pressuring their children, however, parents should offer them unwavering support. This encouragement enables the students to advance successfully within the specific academic field they have chosen. He further emphasized the critical importance of the various skill-development courses available in the current educational landscape. Young people should pursue studies in these fields to ensure a brighter future.
It is worth noting that after taking their examinations, every student engages in a personal assessment of their performance. Given this, if students begin making preparations right now—based on their self-assessment and their desired choice of subjects—regarding which college they wish to join, they can complete the necessary documentation within the stipulated timeframe and move forward.
