Washington. US military forces have attacked Iranian missile sites near the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Iran. The American Central Command gave this information on the social media platform ‘X’ on Tuesday. “A few hours ago, U.S. forces successfully deployed multiple 5,000-pound deep penetration bombs against hardened Iranian missile targets located off the Iranian coast near the Strait of Hormuz,” the command said.

According to the command, “Iranian anti-ship cruise missiles located at these bases were considered a threat to international ships passing through the strait.” Earlier, US President Donald Trump told reporters that Washington is “not ready yet” to end its attacks against Iran as the campaign has now entered its third week. Trump also acknowledged that his proposal for a joint escort mission to secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz has been rejected by most NATO countries and US allies.

He expressed disappointment over this, saying that America “doesn’t need anyone’s help”. He said that Japan, Australia and South Korea have also rejected this proposal. Speaker of Iran’s parliament Mohammad-Baqer Ghalibaf said in a post on social media that the Strait of Hormuz “will not return to its pre-war state,” although he did not provide further details.

In a recent report by JP Morgan, analysts have warned that if the Strait of Hormuz is completely closed, the oil producing countries of West Asia will be able to maintain production only for a maximum of 25 days. Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Iran itself depend on this narrow passage to export their crude oil.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told US media last week that the strait is open to international shipping except those from the US, Israel and their allies. It is noteworthy that on February 28, America and Israel launched large-scale attacks on Iran, which affected global shipping, increased oil prices and affected the global economy.
