Liam Rosenior declined to speak about comments made by Enzo Fernandez, suggesting he might depart Chelsea at the end of the season following their crushing Champions League elimination. The Blues were demolished 8-2 by reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain across two legs in the round of 16. Their elimination was confirmed with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home on Tuesday evening, with the players booed by Chelsea fans as they left the pitch.
A humiliating evening then deteriorated further when Fernandez seemingly opened the door to a blockbuster summer move soon after the final whistle. The midfielder was questioned about his future immediately and hinted that he was contemplating his position at Stamford Bridge. "I don't know," he responded. "There are eight games left and then the FA Cup. Then there's the World Cup, and then we'll see."
Rosenior was then pressed about the Argentine's remarks - and they appeared to catch the former Strasbourg manager off guard.
"Firstly, I haven't seen that," said Rosenior regarding Fernandez's comments. "It's hard for me to speak on speculation after a game and I need to focus right now on the most important things, which is making sure we get a result against Everton on Saturday."
Chelsea supporters made their feelings abundantly clear with jeers at both half-time and full-time, with an early strike from Kvicha Kvaratskhelia effectively ending the tie after just six minutes. A succession of fans departed after Senny Mayulu netted PSG's third goal on the hour mark.
However, Rosenior maintained he had no concerns about the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge. He said: "No, I think it's two-way. This is a fantastic football club where the fans want success instantly and that's rightfully so for the size of the club.
"I understand because of the aggregate scoreline in the tie, why fans are frustrated. They want us to win. So, I completely get it and I understood that before I came in.
"I also want to make them happy and give them the nights they deserve. Not just me, but us as a group, as a team. That was a really, really difficult one to take because of the manner in which we went out this evening."
