While Chelsea supporters were trying their best to get over a humiliating 8-2 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening, the club's vice-captain Enzo Fernandez rocked the boat even more. When asked by ESPN Argentina about his future, the Blues midfielder cast doubt over whether he would be playing his football at Stamford Bridge next season.
Fernandez said: "I don't know. There are eight games left and the FA Cup. There's the World Cup and then we'll see."
Given the turmoil and immediate fallout from their Champions League exit, the last thing Chelsea needed was a senior figure in the dressing room to come out and say something like that. Read the room, Enzo - that was not the time to do it.

Either way, there has been speculation over Fernandez's future for a while now, with Real Madrid and PSG being continuously linked with a move for the Argentina international. Stamford Bridge sources have reiterated over the last couple of months that Chelsea do not plan on selling Fernandez, who is contracted at the club until 2032, but if he does want out, then maybe that stance could be altered - just an opinion.
Fernandez, who joined Chelsea for a previous British record transfer fee of £107million in January 2023, has been in tremendous form for the Blues this season - scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in all competitions, while playing more minutes than anyone else in the squad.
Chelsea, though, have been looking at a player who can also play in the No.10 role, where we have seen Fernandez for the majority of the campaign. The Blues have a long standing interest in Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers, football.london understands, but are yet to make a move for the England international.
The 23-year-old, who was once part of Manchester City's academy system, has shone for Villa over the past two seasons and his form has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs. Rogers, however, penned a long-term contract extension at Villa Park back in November, though there is still mass speculation over where his future lies.
Rogers is on Chelsea's radar. If the Blues and Fernandez were to go their separate ways in the summer transfer window, and at this stage we are not sure if that will be the case or not, then Rogers could well be someone the west Londoners turn to.
Chelsea are set to have a busy summer. A centre-back remains a priority for the Blues after they missed out on signing Jeremy Jacquet in the January transfer window.
There was a brief interest in Douglas Luiz in January before he ended up moving to Aston Villa, so the centre of midfield is another area Chelsea are set to look at. The Blues will also consider their options in attack given some of their struggles this term.
