Anandpur: Villagers in Brahmana Manchale village of Anandpur taluk caught a theft accused and handed him over to the police, leading to the recovery of gold ornaments worth thousands of rupees.
Background of the case
On February 19, unidentified persons broke open the door of a house belonging to Nagaratnamma in Brahmana Manchale village and stole gold ornaments and other items worth around Rs 70,000. A case was registered at Anandpur Police Station, and police had been searching for the accused since then.
Villagers act promptly
On March 18, a suspicious man was seen moving around the same village, reportedly with the intention of committing another theft. Alert villagers chased and caught him before handing him over to the police.
The accused has been identified as Santosh Kumar, a resident of Kanabanduru village in Hosanagara taluk. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the earlier theft at Nagaratnamma’s house.
Police recovered 12.21 grams of gold ornaments from him. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
