Alisson Becker will be absent from Liverpool's fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, with Giorgi Mamardashvili poised to take his place between the sticks. Alisson was sidelined during the Champions League loss to Galatasaray last Tuesday due to what was reported as a minor muscle problem.

However, he made a comeback for the Premier League stalemate with Tottenham on Sunday, and featured again on Wednesday when Liverpool overturned their first-leg deficit against Galatasaray at Anfield, advancing to the Champions League quarter-finals.

But Alisson is not included in the Reds' travelling squad this weekend, as it was deemed too risky to field him at the Amex Stadium.

It means Mamardashvili is ready to play in a match that could prove pivotal to Liverpool's hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Alisson recently had a one-year extension activated in his Liverpool contract, but fitness concerns have plagued the goalkeeper in recent years.

The last two full Premier League seasons have seen him miss 20 matches in total, with Caoimhin Kelleher stepping in during his absence.

Mamardashvili has also made five league appearances this campaign following a muscle issue for Alisson in September's group-stage defeat to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Alisson has reportedly been substituted by Hugo Souza in the Brazil squad for the forthcoming March international break.

He has missed several important games for Liverpool this season, including in October where he wasn't available for defeats to Chelsea, Manchester United, Brentford and Manchester City.

Alisson won't be the only high-profile absentee against Brighton, with Mohamed Salah also being forced to watch from the sidelines.

Speaking on Friday, Arne Slot said: "Indeed, unusual and as a result of that you can expect the outcome, he's not available for tomorrow.

"The good thing for Liverpool, for us, is we go to an international break, and the bad thing for Egypt is that he can't go there."
