For over two decades, SPIC MACAY has been taking Indian classical music beyond conventional auditoriums and into public spaces through its community outreach initiatives across the country. One of its most popular initiatives, the Music in the Park series, is part of this larger vision.

This year marks the 22nd year of the Music in the Park series at Nehru Park, and the season featured performances by renowned artists including Rakesh Chaurasia, Ulhas Kashalkar, Sanjay Subrahmanyan and N. Rajam. The concerts were well received by music lovers, reaffirming the enduring appeal of classical music presented in open, accessible public spaces and continuing the legacy of bringing classical music closer to the public. The edition was hosted in collaboration with NDMC.

Launched in September 2004 in Delhi, the series was conceived to celebrate India’s composite cultural heritage while also creating awareness about the importance of a peaceful and clean environment. By bringing classical music to open public spaces, the initiative aimed to make the art form more accessible and encourage people to experience music in a relaxed, community setting.

Over the years, the series has featured some of the greatest names in Indian classical music. Legendary musicians such as Ravi Shankar, Bismillah Khan, Kishori Amonkar, Amjad Ali Khan, Hariprasad Chaurasia, L. Subramaniam, Shubha Mudgal, Girija Devi and Zakir Hussain have all performed as part of the series, drawing large audiences and introducing many young listeners to classical music.
