On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, India’s major oil companies completely rejected rumors of shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG due to the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict. He assured citizens that supplies are stable and adequate stocks are available across the country.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) said, “The rumors of petrol-diesel shortage are completely false. There is adequate availability of fuel across the country and supply is normal. BPCL is ensuring supply without any interruption at all places. Please do not panic and avoid unnecessary purchases.” Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) also reiterated the same, saying there is “no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG,” the supply is stable and urged people to consume normally. Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) also confirmed that its outlets have adequate reserves and are fully functional.

These rumors spread amid increasing tension in West Asia. The tension escalated after the US-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, which killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran also retaliated, which included missile attacks on regional targets. The conflict has severely disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. It is an important route carrying a major portion of India’s crude oil and gas imports. The blockage has caused shipping diversions, delays and a sharp spike in global oil prices.

In Parliament earlier this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the situation as a “serious global energy crisis”. He said the crisis has affected trade routes and affected the supply of petrol, diesel, gas and fertilizers. He said that an inter-ministerial group and seven empowered groups have been formed to deal with the challenges to supply chains, inflation and essential commodities. At the same time, he also emphasized that India’s strategic reserves and diverse resources will help in mitigating the impact of this crisis within the country.

Oil companies and the government urged the public not to engage in panic buying, which led to temporary long queues at some outlets. However, if these disruptions continue, long-term risks remain; But at present the availability of fuel at petrol pumps is normal. Officials are continuously monitoring this rapidly changing situation.
