Liverpool have confirmed that general admission ticket prices will increase for the next three seasons. The news comes despite their disastrous Premier League title defence, with Arne Slot's team currently sitting fifth in the top-flight table after 31 matches.

The Reds are just a point clear of sixth-placed Chelsea after last weekend's dismal 2-1 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion - leaving their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League in peril. But despite a difficult season and with no guarantees over whether they will be playing in Europe's elite competition next term - ticket prices are set to increase.

Liverpool say adult general admission ticket prices will rise between £1.25 and £1.75 per person, per matchday, and adult season tickets will increase between £21.50 and £27 next season.

Junior and local general tickets, meanwhile, will be frozen at £9 each. Elsewhere, the upper age for young adult tickets will rise from 21 to 24, while the senior concessions age range will remain unchanged.

Away Premier League game prices will remain capped at £30, with top-flight clubs voting unanimously to retain the cap at a meeting in London last Thursday.

The increases at Liverpool follow a period of eight ticket price freezes in the last 10 seasons at Anfield. And the Reds say they have engaged with their official Supporters Board on ticket pricing through several meetings.

The Board stated its view that ticket prices should be frozen for two seasons, in line with the Football Supporters’ Association campaign against ticket price increases. However, Liverpool say in a statement on their website that this was not viable.

It said: "After careful consideration across several meetings, the club decided this was not considered viable in the highly competitive environment it operates within, as it continues to invest on and off the pitch, and rising costs across the club that are outside of its control."

The Supporters Board have criticised the move in a statement.

“We’ve engaged with the club in direct discussions since early February,” they said. "This followed a meeting with the club’s board and ownership last October.

"We were clear about our requests throughout: we sought a price freeze for two seasons, in line with the Football Supporters’ Association’s ‘Stop Exploiting Loyalty’ campaign, and sought commitment to work together to find alternatives that do not cost supporters more.

“We felt this was an opportunity for the club to do what we might expect from those who pride themselves on it meaning ‘more’: be different from others, support fan loyalty, and work collectively on a solution that does not come at the expense of supporters.”

Liverpool say their ticket renewal period will open next week, and further details will be sent to season ticket holders in due course.
