Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has come out swinging against those suggesting that MS Dhoni should hang up his boots in the Indian Premier League (IPL), insisting that he should keep playing for another decade. It’s worth noting that Yuvraj Singh’s father has been quite critical of MSD in the past, even blaming him for cutting his son’s career short. However, as we approach IPL 2026, Yograj seems to have changed his tune, now believing that Dhoni is nowhere near retirement, even if recent stats and performances might tell a different story.
In an exclusive chat with InsideSport, Yograj praised Dhoni’s discipline and commitment to the game, arguing that he should continue for another ten years. He didn’t hold back in criticizing those calling for the former CSK captain to retire, pointing out that younger players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have considered stepping away, while MS has kept on going.
“He (Dhoni) is still playing and should keep on doing so for the next 10 years. Because he has proved his fitness with the right discipline and dedication. I still see his forearm, amazing man. Who the hell are people to tell him to retire? No. As far as cricket is concerned, hats off to him,” Yograj Singh said.

MS Dhoni Set for Lower-Order Batting in IPL 2026
Over the years, Dhoni has faced the same question repeatedly – ‘Is this your last season?’ His response has consistently been a firm ‘definitely not’ or a promise to keep trying. At 44, MS is currently the oldest uncapped player in the IPL. However, when it comes to his performance, it’s clear that he’s struggled in recent seasons.
Dhoni has been dealing with knee issues, something the team has acknowledged before. This is why he often bats at positions 7 or 8, a decision that has drawn a lot of criticism. While he can handle a few balls, he certainly can’t last for 4 or 5 overs, especially since that requires a lot of running between the wickets.
As we look ahead to IPL 2026, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad chose not to comment on Dhoni’s batting position. But it seems pretty clear that MS will come in for the fewest deliveries possible, likely only stepping up to bat when the game or innings is winding down.
