Prince William is reportedly determined for his two youngest children Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to not feel like "spares" compared to their older brother Prince George, it has been revealed. Over the last few years, The Prince of Wales has been estranged with his own brother Prince Harry, who has frequently spoken about what it is like to be the "spare" to his sibling, who is set to be a future King.
It is believed this has made William, 43, determined to ensure his youngest children do not feel the same with their older brother Prince George. Tina Brown, author of The Palace Papers, said that Prince William is "determined" that Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis "will not fall victim" to the "built-in cruelty'" of the heir and spare system.
She also said the future King wants his second and third-born children to feel "well-prepared and well-financed for independent lives".
As reported by The Daily Mail, Brown wrote in her Substack 'Fresh Hell': "I am told that the heir to the throne, Prince William, is preoccupied with the built-in risk of primogeniture's cruelty."
It is believed to ensure Charlotte, 10, and Louis, seven, do not feel this way, The Prince and Princess of Wales treat them equally to their oldest child Prince George, 12, who will one day be King.
Speaking to the Daily Mail in October, royal author Robert Hardman said that both Prince William and Princess Catherine make sure Charlotte and Louis both feel "as loved" as George, and are treated equally.
It is believed this is helped by the fact the couple are trying to give their children as ordinary an upbringing as possible, which includes getting them to do chores and take place in school events like every other child.
This is believed to be something William and Catherine are passionate about, and is also believed to be one of the reasons the family moved from Kensington Palace to Windsor, where they live without any staff.
Royal expert Jennie Bond once told the i newspaper: "They can't change the fact that their children have been born into an extraordinary destiny and they've introduced them gently to some of the pomp and pageantry, but they've also given them a taste of a more ordinary existence - moving out of Kensington Palace to a relatively modest house with no live-in staff."
Prince William and Catherine have not publicly commented on this.
