Navneet Kaur, a forward for the Indian Women's Hockey Team, expressed her delight upon receiving the esteemed Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year (Women) during the 8th Annual Awards 2025 ceremony held in New Delhi on Friday.
A Year of Exceptional Performance
This past year has been remarkable for Navneet, who has established herself as one of India's leading attacking players. She played a crucial role in securing a Silver medal for India at the recent FIH Hockey Women's World Cup Qualifiers in Hyderabad, where she was the third-highest goal scorer with four goals and earned the title of Player of the Tournament. Additionally, she was vital in India's Silver medal win at the Women's Asia Cup 2025, contributing six goals. Navneet also celebrated a personal achievement by reaching 200 international caps, showcasing her experience and dedication at the elite level. Throughout the year, she has consistently performed under pressure, scoring key goals and driving the team's offensive efforts, solidifying her status as a pivotal player in India's forward lineup.
Gratitude for Recognition
After receiving the award, Navneet shared her excitement, stating, "I am truly honoured to be named Player of the Year. This recognition means a lot, and I owe it to my teammates whose constant support and belief have played a huge role in this achievement. I would also like to thank Hockey India for organising this awards platform every year—it is a great source of motivation for players across the country."
Preparing for Upcoming Challenges
Looking forward to a busy international schedule, she remarked, "We are gearing up for a crucial stretch of the season with major tournaments like the Nations Cup, World Cup, and Asian Games ahead. Our camp begins soon, and while we were pleased with our performance in the last tournament, we know there are areas that need improvement. The focus now is on addressing those gaps and continuing to raise our level as a team."
In the upcoming World Cup, scheduled from August 14-30, India will compete in Group D alongside China, England, and South Africa.
Commitment to Personal Development
Discussing her personal aspirations, Navneet highlighted her dedication to ongoing improvement, stating, "I will also be focusing on elevating my personal performance. While I am satisfied with what I've achieved so far, I know there is still room to grow and improve. There are marquee tournaments that come around only once in four years, so I'm determined to give my absolute best and contribute towards strong results for the team."
With significant competitions on the horizon, Navneet is committed to enhancing her performance and playing a vital role in India's success on the international stage.
