Bengaluru/Chennai: Fans are eagerly waiting for Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan, which is said to be his final movie. However, the film is facing repeated delays in its release.
The movie, which was earlier scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, has now been postponed indefinitely due to pending clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Release delay and production concerns
According to recent reports, production house KVN Productions may release Jana Nayagan only after completing its other major projects. These include KD: The Devil, scheduled for April 30, 2026, and Toxic starring Yash, set for release on June 4, 2026.
Impact on business deals
The delay has reportedly affected the film’s business prospects. There are rumours that Amazon Prime Video has backed out of its agreement. It is also being said that overseas distributor Phars Films has withdrawn from the international distribution rights.
Possible new release date
The release date continues to remain uncertain. Sources suggest that the makers are planning to release the film on June 22, marking Vijay’s birthday. If this plan does not work out, the film may be pushed to July.
Story and cast
Directed by H. Vinoth, the film follows the story of a former police officer named Vetri Kondan, who later becomes a prisoner. He raises an orphan girl named Viji and encourages her to join the army.
The film features a strong cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, and Priyamani in key roles.
