Curfew, central forces deployed after clashes on Ram Navami in Murshidabad

Clashes broke out between two communities at three different places during **Ram Navami procession** in Raghunathganj area of ​​Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Friday, March 27, 2026. The violence resulted in stone pelting, vandalism, looting and arson of shops and establishments, injuring several people and spreading panic across the area.

Police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the crowd, while additional forces including senior officers led by ** Murshidabad Range DIG Ajit Singh Yadav ** immediately reached the spot. Central Armed Police Forces (CRPF and CAPF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) were deployed to restore law and order. In view of the unrest, the administration has imposed **Section 144** (prohibitory order prohibiting the assembly of four or more people) across the city. The atmosphere still remains tense, although patrolling and route marches by security forces are continuing.

DIG Ajit Singh Yadav told reporters that additional forces and senior officers have been deployed. He said, “The situation is under control. We have sent teams for raids and raids are being conducted at various places. Additional forces of CRPF and CAPF are reaching the area to normalize the situation and maintain their dominance.” He further said that the culprits are being identified through **CCTV footage** and promised strict action against all those involved in this violence, adding that “no one will be spared.”

According to latest reports, around 30 people have been arrested so far in connection with this violence. Police are continuing their investigation to identify other culprits.

The incident, which took place in the sensitive border district of Murshidabad, has attracted everyone’s attention during the West Bengal Assembly election campaign, where law and order remains a major political issue.
