The case of Nancy Guthrie's disappearance has led to a significant investigation in Arizona. Her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, described the situation as a "harrowing" ordeal for their family. During an interview on Dateline with Hoda Kotb, Savannah recounted the moment she discovered her 84-year-old mother was missing from her Tucson residence. She mentioned that she had been enjoying an evening with her children at the home of fellow Today show host Carson Daly when she received a concerning call from her sister.

"We had a lovely evening together," Savannah recalled. Shortly after her husband returned home, she received the alarming news from her sister that their mother, who struggles with mobility, was unaccounted for. Savannah urged her sister to contact emergency services, only to learn that they had already been notified. Authorities in Pima County later discovered blood on the front porch and noted that the back doors were ajar, with personal items, including valuables, left behind.

Later that evening, Savannah boarded a flight to Phoenix, arriving in Tucson in the early hours of the morning. Her brother, who resides in Vermont, also made the trip to support the family. The next day, Sheriff Chris Nanos held a press conference expressing serious concerns regarding the situation at the home. Search and rescue teams, along with homicide detectives, were deployed to assist in the investigation. "It’s very concerning what we’re learning from the house," he stated to the media.

Authorities reported that Nancy was last seen between 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM on January 31, after being dropped off at her home following dinner. Savannah noted that her mother was taken in her pajamas, without shoes or essential medication, leaving behind her phone, purse, and watch. In the weeks following her disappearance, the family has received several ransom demands, many of which are believed to be scams. However, Savannah mentioned that at least two seemed credible, prompting the family to create video messages in response.

"How is it possible that we are having to make a video speaking to a kidnapper who took an 84-year-old woman in the dead of night, in her pajamas, with no shoes, without her medicine and to beg for mercy?" she expressed. Both the police and the family are urging the public for any information that could assist in the case. A reward exceeding $1.2 million has been offered for information leading to Nancy's safe return, including $1 million from the family. "How can someone vanish without a trace? How? Someone knows something," Savannah pleaded. "Even if that something’s someone has been acting strange for the last 7, 8 weeks… Somebody knows."
