England batter Ben Duckett has been fined £700 after being caught speeding in the same week as withdrawing from the 2026 Indian Premier League to concentrate on international duty. The Nottinghamshire player, 31, was clocked at 93mph on the A50 near Stoke in Staffordshire - over 20mph more than the speed limit of 70mph.
The England player was photographed by police speed cameras while driving his Land Rover on August 24 last year. Duckett was alerted by Staffordshire Police about the alleged speeding offence in September, and submitted a guilty plea through the Single Justice Procedure at Cannock Magistrates' Court, when it appeared as part of a written plea.
As the speed was high, it was determined to warrant prosecution in court as opposed to a fixed penalty. He was slapped with a £700 fine along with four penalty points on his licence. Duckett also has to pay £120 in costs and a £280 victim surcharge, taking his bill to £1,100. The case was heard behind closed doors as Duckett submitted his guilty plea on paper.

Form Concerns and Past Controversies
Duckett has been a staple in England's Test team for some time now, but his place has been called into question in recent months, as form has dipped for the 31-year-old. A key figure in England's 'Bazball' approach to the game since the Ashes summer of 2022, he admits to 'struggling recently', a period which began shortly after a drunken incident in Australia on the Ashes tour.
The batter was filmed appearing worse for wear during a night out in Noosa, and his subsequent actions earned him some criticism. Speaking about his drunken state, he said: "I'm sorry about that incident, that was unprofessional and shouldn't have happened. There is no hiding away from it."
Last week he announced his decision to pull out of a £200,000 deal to play for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League and stated his focus now lies on county cricket to earn his place back in the England Test team, ahead of the upcoming series against New Zealand.
This is not the first time the batter has courted controversy. In 2015, he crashed his car into a ditch in Northamptonshire, leading to a 12-month driving ban and, in 2017, he was involved in a drink-related incident in which he reportedly poured a drink over teammate James Anderson during a night out.
Duckett made his Test debut for England in 2016, establishing himself as an explosive opener since then, however, following his poor form in recent times and his involvement in several off-field incidents, the next few months will be defining for the Nottinghamshire man.
