Responding to BJP’s comments on its vigorous campaigning in Bagalkot, Siddaramaiah said the opposition party in Karnataka was making such statements out of fear of defeat. He further said that it has been the tradition of Congress to give tickets to the families of deceased MLAs and informed that similar decisions have been taken in both Davangere and Bagalkot. On BJP leader Narayanaswamy’s comments regarding the post of Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah said that he will follow the decisions of the Congress high command and will not respond to the BJP’s statements. Earlier this month, Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy had claimed that Siddaramaiah was the outgoing chief minister as he was preparing to resign. The Chief Minister also alleged that the BJP did not give priority to the establishment of a medical college in Bagalkot during its tenure nor did it provide any relief to farmers under the Krishna Upper River Project. He reiterated that the contribution of HY Meiti in the development of this region was very important. Referring to the political developments in Davanagere South, Siddaramaiah said that Congress candidate Pehalwan Sadiq has been persuaded to withdraw from the election contest. He further said that Karnataka minister Zameer Ahmed will take part in the election campaign.
