Cyber ​​Fraud Case: A big case of cyber fraud has come to light in Narnaul city of Mahendragarh district of Haryana. Here a retired bank employee was defrauded of about Rs 10 lakh in the name of getting pension benefits. After this incident, the victim lodged a complaint with the police, on the basis of which Cyber ​​Crime Police Station Narnaul has registered a case and started investigation.

The name of the victim is Purna Chand, who is a resident of Ganesh Colony and has retired from Punjab National Bank (PNB). He told in his complaint that on March 25, he was using Facebook when he saw an advertisement named “PNB Pensioner Retirement Card Benefit”. This advertisement was specifically claiming to provide additional benefits to pensioners.

Cheating with APK file

When Purna Chand clicked on this advertisement, an APK file named “PNB Pensioner Retirement Benefits” was downloaded and installed in his mobile phone. This file was actually a fake app, which fraudsters use to steal people’s personal information.

Call from unknown number

After some time, a call from an unknown person came on his mobile number. The caller introduced himself as an employee of the HR department of Punjab National Bank (Dwarka, Delhi). He assured Purna Chand that he was creating an HRMS user ID for him, through which he would get many pension benefits.

Filled personal information by luring people

The fraudster asked him to fill his employee ID, ATM card number, date of birth and other important information in that app. He also said that “Pensioner Retirement Card” will be sent to them on WhatsApp and they will also get their printed card later. Apart from this, the fraudster while luring said that with this card they will get more interest on fixed deposit (FD) and savings account, and will also get up to 25 percent discount on medicines. Being influenced by these things, Purna Chand put all his information in that fake app.

money started getting deducted

After some time, messages of money being deducted from the bank started coming on his mobile. Upon investigation, it was found that his FD deposited in the bank was first broken and then the amount was transferred to his savings account. After this, a total of Rs 10,01,072 was withdrawn through six different transactions.

Got accounts frozen

By the time they came to know about this fraud, it was too late. However, he immediately showed alertness and lodged a complaint on the cyber helpline and contacted the help desk of the bank and got all his accounts frozen. The police is now investigating this matter and trying to find out who are the people behind this fraud. This incident once again shows that cyber thugs are adopting new methods to make people their victims.

To protect yourself from cyber fraud, do not immediately trust the attractive offers seen on social media. Apart from this, avoid downloading any unknown app (APK file). Do not share personal information to the bank with anyone. Ignore any suspicious call or message immediately.
